What is Drontal for dogs and cats?

Drontal is an oral treatment that prevents intestinal worms in both dogs and cats. It is available in a number of different forms and strengths, giving you the option to find the best product for your pet.

Drontal for dogs treats roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and tapeworm (including hydatid tapeworm). Drontal for cats treats roundworm, hookworm, and tapeworm. It does not prevent heartworm or lungworm.

This product is used as a single dose treatment but should be readministered at least every three months to keep your pets happy and healthy.

Is Drontal suitable for my pet?

Drontal is safe for use on dogs and puppies from 2 weeks of age, weighing at least 4.4lbs (2kg), and safe for use on cats over 6 weeks of age, weighing at least 4.4lbs (2kg). Drontal may be given to nursing animals but should not be used with pregnant dogs or cats.

Dosage Schedule

Drontal Chewables, Drontal Flavour Tablets, Drontal Tasty Bones

Administer one tablet per 22 pounds (10kg) of body weight, rounding up to the nearest ½ tablet.

Drontal Chewables for Large Dogs

Administer one tablet per 77 pounds (35kg) of body weight, rounding up to the nearest ½ tablet. For dogs under 38.5 pounds (17.5 kg) a more accurate dose can be given with Drontal Chewables for Dogs. Drontal for large dogs should not be given to dogs under 15.5 pounds (7kg) body weight.

Drontal Cat Allwormer

Administer one tablet per 8.8 pounds (4kg) of body weight, rounding up to the nearest ½ tablet.

What are the side effects of Drontal?

Side effects reported in dogs and cats treated with Drontal include mild and transient digestive tract disorders such as hypersalivation and/or vomiting. Less common side effects include mild and transient neurological disorders.

Be aware that dogs and cats treated with the same medication may experience different adverse reactions.

What precautions must be taken?

• Keep out of reach of children and animals.
• Use only with the animal for which it is intended.
• Weigh your pet before use to ensure correct dosage.
• Do not give on dogs under 2 weeks of age.
• Do not give to cats under 6 weeks of age.
• Do not give to cats or dogs weighing less than 4.4 pounds (2 kg).
• Do not give to pregnant animals.
